Custom cushions, cut to your frame and made to take the weather
Indoor and outdoor cushions made to fit, from a single rattan chair to a full patio sectional, plus pillows to match.
What sun and a wet winter do to a patio cushion
Outdoor cushions take the hardest year of any seat in the house. Summer sun bleaches the cover until a bold raspberry or a deep navy looks washed out, and the foam underneath slowly gives up, flattening into a seat that no longer holds you up. Then the damp arrives, and a cushion that never fully dries starts to smell.
The Pacific Northwest is not kind to patio sets. Long wet winters, standing rain and shaded corners invite mildew into the seams and the foam core, and a cover that has faded and gone soft rarely recovers from a scrub. Often the frame is perfectly good. It is only the cushion that has quit, and that part can be made new.

How a custom cushion gets made
A custom cushion starts with the frame, not a catalog size. Email photos of the chair, bench or sectional, along with the measurements of the seat and back, and the shape gets worked out from there: square, rounded, tapered to fit a curved rattan arm, or one long cushion for a bench. The photos and measurements are what the quote is built from.
From there come the choices that decide how it feels and how long it lasts. Foam can be firmer for dining seats or softer for a deep lounge, and the cover can have a zipper so it comes off for care. Outdoor furniture calls for outdoor-rated fabric that stands up to sun and rain. Indoor pieces have a much wider field to play in.
You can supply your own fabric, or order from Charlotte Fabrics through the studio, and help narrowing the choices is part of the process. Pictures of the piece and the space it lives in make that conversation easier. Call 503-245-2453 or write to sassafrassity@hotmail.com, and the quote comes back from the photos.
Pillows indoors, and care for the outdoor set
Cushions are not only for patios. The same hands that cover the outdoor sectional also make pillows and indoor seat cushions, and a few good pillows can change how a sofa, a window seat or a worn-out rattan chair reads in a room. Pick a print that argues with the walls, or a solid that quietly matches them.
Outdoor sets last longer with a little care between seasons. Brush off dirt before it works in, let covers dry completely before anything is stored, and keep cushions somewhere dry once the rain settles in for the winter. A set that spends the wet months off the frame and out of the weather comes back to the patio in far better shape.
When a set wears out, it does not have to mean replacing the furniture. A frame that is still sound often turns up wearing cushions that are not, and that is a good problem to have. Fresh covers and foam, made for a Vancouver, WA patio or porch, can stand between a tired corner and one you want to sit in.
